Thanks to my job, I have the opportunity to talk to a lot of ‘sick’ people.  Just when I think I’ve heard it all… well, I hear something new.  I don’t even pretend to understand how extremely devastating some of these health issues are to people.

Some of the people I deal with on a regular basis, I almost dread having to talk to them because all I hear is a constant litany of all of their aches and pains and reasons why they can’t get healthy.  It seems almost as if they are afraid that if they get better, no one will pay attention to them anymore. Their minds don’t seem to be open to the possibility of ever getting healthy.

But one thing I have noticed is that regardless of what is going on with their different health issues; the people with a strong positive attitude seem to have a quicker recovery. There are those people who seem to have insurmountable odds, but fight their way back to health.  And the one thing they really seem to have in common is that they look for the positive things and find things to be grateful for.  They make a habit of writing things in a gratitude journal. And on bad days, they review their gratitude journal to remind themselves of how far they have come. Continue reading
